Sangam today, Saturday, 05 April, 2008

First of all thanks for being a listener to Sangam on KFAI.

This year KFAI celebrates 30 years of broadcasting and Sangam will have been on the air for a little over half that time. Such longevity has been made possible by the interest and support of loyal listeners such as you.

KFAI is a non-commercial, community radio station and depends on the financial support of its listeners together with some grants to continue its operations. Not all of you live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area but the KFAI community is defined by its listeners and not the radio station’s geographical location. No matter where you are located in the world, if you listen to KFAI via the Internet, you are part of our community.

Our Spring pledge drive is starting this week. I request you to make a donation to KFAI by calling the radio station at 612-375-9030 or donate online by visiting

You can donate any amount but typical pledges run from $50-75. You also have the option of signing up for an automatic monthly payment to spread out the donation over the year.

I would be thrilled to have the listeners to my Sangam editions jointly contribute at least $500 to this pledge drive. Would you like to help achieve this goal?

You can pledge at any time but talk to me this Saturday (05 April, 2008) at 612-375-9030 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm US Central Time (2200-2400 UTC) when I am on the air (Live audiostream:

As a special premium (give away to donors) we have one copy of a signed, first edition of Sujata Massey’s latest book “Shimura Trouble” for a listener who donates $75 or more.

Thanks for you support.

I am seeking connections that will enable me to find the best local venue possible for Suphala - an Indian artist based in New York who grew up here, in New Brighton.

She performs around the world, but has yet to perform here in Minnesota. Would you have some interest in talking with me to help find the right people to partner with to bring Suphala to the Twin Cities?

Thank you very much! I hope to hear from you!
