Sangam Playlist for 2016 February 15


This edition features filmi geet, ghazals by Mehdi Hassan, Iqbal Bano, Najma Akhtar, and Susheela Raman. Also jazz with Autorickshaw, Trilok Guru, Usman Riaz, and Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition with Rez Abbasi, and Vijay Iyer.

Abbasi, Mahanthappa, and Iyer, together with Johannes Weidenmueller, Dan Weiss, and Elizabeth Means, will be performing at the Walker Art Center as Rez Abbasi's Invocation Quintet and also feature Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition. The performance is on Thursday, February 25th, 2016, at 8 pm at the Walker Art Center.

Mariam assisted with the hosting and provided lively conversation.

I am one of the guitarists for "The Kominas", an American Desi band from the eastcoast of the United States. We are looking to book a show on August 8th in Minneapolis, MN. We sing in Urdu, Punjabi, as well as English, we have covered the music of Noor Jehan, Naseebo Lal, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as well as our own music, all of which you can hear here:

Please let me know the best way to go about booking this show, even if you can simply pass me along to someone else who might know. We also are available to do Baithak-type acoustic performances at any aunty/uncle's homes if you can get a crowd of your friends together for such an evening!
